Benje302 Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Hi I wonder if any of you can help with the following..? I own a 1998 Galaxy 2.3 petrol GLX auto and has been fine since I have owned it (3 years) until it started playing up a week ago. The intial problem is that the car would drive around all ok, start all ok but would idle very badly. The revs would be stable and then drop to approx 500 rpm and then jump around between say 600 - 900 rpm. Even though idle was bad the car drove fine. The car went into the garage and a small "L shaped" breather hose was replaced (was split and had a hole) and now the car runs like a dream. However, since this breather pipe has been swapped the car starts fine when it is cold but if the car is run until hot and then switched off say for 10 minutes the revs increase when the key is turned as normal but the the revs drops and the car stalls. This can happen 2 or 3 times but the way I get around this is to rev the car a few times and watch the revs till it settles. Once the car is running is does not stall or misbehave at all. Is not the end of the world but very annoying when the Galaxy is the main transport for my 3 children. The garage looked at the car this morning and checked a few things and could not find anything. I braved going to a Ford main dealer and they wanted 75 + vat for an hours labour just to plug it up to a computer. So if anyone has seen this before or has any ideas I would appreiate it a lot. Thanks in advance Ben Quote

Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Get the throttle body cleaned properly. If that fails to cure it, try the idle stability valve. Don't use your main dealer but ring around/visit a few independent garages asking if they have a computer that will interrogate the Ford engine management system to read the fault codes etc. Quote
